52 Ways to Frenchify Your Life… One Week At A Time
If you’re anything like me, you love eating food with great flavor. I mean who doesn’t, right? Herbes de Provence (herbs of/from Provence) is a staple in our kitchen that we always have on hand. Using Herbes de Provence is one way to Frenchify your life effortlessly.

What is Herbes de Provence
Herbes de Provence (HdP) is a mix of dried herbs that are typical of the Provence region in southeastern France (golden-brown area on the map below labeled, “Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur“). Each producer creates their own recipe or variation, but HdP is a very versatile spice that goes with so many dishes and can help you Frenchify your life through culinary experiences.

The most common ingredients in HdP includes thyme, rosemary, savory, marjoram, and oregano. Often basil, tarragon, parsley, bay leaves and lavender are included along with other delicious herbs. I personally love the (edible) lavender buds in it. They give HdP that little taste of southern France!
Uses
Herbes de Provence can be used in pretty much any savory dish. I love to use it to season vegetables, fish, and all sorts of meats we grill. Soups and sauces, especially tomato-based, are excellent candidates for a little HdP. I even like to grind just a touch of it onto salads. Really, it is so versatile that you can use it on just about anything. Including it in your meals is a simple way to Frenchify your life daily!

Make your own
When I run out of my bags of HdP that I bring back from France, I make my own. I LOVE to grow herbs, therefore I grow all of the ingredients that I put in my own mix. If you don’t grow your own herbs, or not all that are used in HdP, you can also source fresh from your local farmer’s market. Dried herbs are also easily found online – just ensure they are of good quality. Have fun with making your own blend and, in doing so, Frenchify your life with a personal touch.

Where to purchase
The best place to get HdP is in FRANCE! Why, you ask? Because 1) that’s where it originated, and 2) you get to go to France! Haha 🙂 If you aren’t going to France anytime soon and you aren’t interested in making your own, don’t fret! Herbes de Provence is pretty readily available at most stores these days or online. Here is the link for a small jar (1 oz.) or a refill bag (3.5 oz. bag).
So, now that you’re familiar with Herbes de Provence, what dishes would you add it to? I’d love to get new ideas from you! Please share in the comments below.
